What are Dental Implants?

When talking about dental implants, most people are referring to the entire replacement tooth, which is actually made of distinct parts. The implant is a titanium or ceramic post or screw placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. The restoration is the dental crown attached to the implant to replace the visible portion of the tooth.

Dental Implants from Start to Finish

Many dentists or implant specialists offer either implant placement or provide the restorations, but not both. A dentist may refer patients out for the surgical procedure, and a surgeon may depend on a prosthodontist to design and place the restorations, requiring patients to work with multiple doctors and travel to different facilities.

At Ramani Dentistry, we handle the entire procedure, including the extraction of damaged or decayed teeth, the surgical placement of implants, and the final restorations, all under one roof. What does that mean for you? Seamless care, personalized treatment planning, and no need to work with multiple doctors. Throughout your dental implant journey, Dr. Ramani and his team provide attentive care and prioritize your comfort.

Why Choose Ramani Dentistry: 3D Guided Implant Surgery

We utilize 3D guidance technology to determine the optimal location and angle of each implant, ensuring a stable, strong foundation for your restorations. With 3D guided implant surgery, we can use smaller incisions for reduced surgical trauma and faster recovery times. It also ensures that critical structures and nerves are avoided, reducing your time in the dental chair. This innovative technology has made the implant surgery procedure less invasive and more accurate than ever.

Treatment Process

Placing dental implants typically involves two surgical steps. Initially, implants are inserted into the jawbone and remain beneath the gums for three to six months while bonding occurs. During this period, you can wear temporary dentures and follow a soft diet.

Once the implants bond to the jawbone, we will remove the temporary restoration and fit the custom restorations designed from your mouth’s impressions. These restorations—crowns, fixed bridges, or a full arch of teeth—are securely attached to the implants using slender fasteners known as abutments. The entire process generally spans six to eight months.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Dental Implant

When a single tooth is missing, an individual implant can be placed without disturbing the adjacent teeth. The implant screw is surgically placed in the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone, creating a stable base for the restoration attached.

Multiple Implants

When you are missing several teeth not in a row, you can have them replaced individually, each with its own implant and crown. This provides an implant for each missing tooth, with an individual crown attached to each.

Implant-Supported Bridge

If you have several missing teeth but would prefer a bridge rather than individual restorations, a bridge with all the replacement teeth can be supported by a few carefully placed implants.

Full-Arch Dental Implants

When you are missing all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw, a full arch of replacement teeth can be fastened permanently to between four and eight or more implants that are precisely placed in the jawbone to take advantage of the widest and strongest areas of the jawbone.
